At Animal Harbor, every kennel represents a second chance.
For a dog with nowhere else to go, it means safety. Medical care. A moment to exhale. A path toward a loving home.
We exist to create as many of those second chances as possible.
But right now, space is standing in the way.
More than 85% of the dogs who enter our shelter arrive with a communicable illness — upper respiratory infections, parasites, and other contagious conditions that require careful recovery spaces. Our current facility was not designed for this level of medical need. We do not have a true, stand-alone, properly ventilated isolation space.
That means one sick dog can place our entire shelter population at risk.
When illness spreads, we are forced to pause intakes. And when intakes pause, dogs in crisis have nowhere to go.
At the same time, our kennel space is at capacity nearly every day. We maintain a waitlist of dogs in urgent need. These are dogs we want desperately to help, but simply don’t have the safe space to house.
We never want “lack of space” to be the reason we can’t say yes.
To reach the level of care our community deserves and our dogs require, we must expand. This project will allow us to safely treat illness, prevent disease spread, shorten shelter stays, and increase our capacity by 50–60%.
More space means more safety.
More safety means more second chances.
And that is exactly what this expansion is about.
